About Me

Yoseph "Joe" Levy was born & grew up in Gibraltar, a British overseas territory located in the southern tip of Spain................

Originally, the draw to music at a very young age came from The Beatles & The Monkeys, but they seem to have only acted as a catalyst since he quickly had a strong yearning to explore other music.

He feels very fortunate to have grown up with his childhood friend - world class percussionist Yitzhak Isaac Attias. Their biggest influence in those early years was most definitely Santana but they also delved into Osibisa; Malo; Mongo Santamaria; Blood Sweat & Tears; Crosby Stills Nash & Young and
The Allman Brothers to name a few!

Growing up in the sunny Mediterranean with Spain as a neighbouring country, has always remained a strong influence in their musicianship. By age 15-16 years old he was already working the club scene.

His music ear & influences progressed with time: Chick Corea; Pat Matheney; Steely Dan; John McLaughlin; Jeff Beck; (early) Journey amongst many others.

He lived in Israel for 3-1/2 years. In addition to studio work, he toured & played throughout the country extensively - playing all types of venues from small lounges to large halls.

Returning back to Gibraltar, he worked on some Jazz & Rock projects. During this period he studied with renowned music/drum educator Joel Rothman in London, England. Then through Modern Drummer Magazine, he hooked up with the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.

He did move to Winnipeg, Canada & attended the U. of M. but never finished the music program.

Nonetheless, he worked extensively in Winnipeg & played with many accomplished musicians such as Danny Koulack, Kinsey Posen, Eli Herscovitch & others. He taught drums for several years & also did studio work................

He has since moved to Toronto, Ontario Canada in order to further his musical horizons.

In Toronto he has had the distinguished pleasure of performing with some of the finest assortment of musicians in the city, amongst them are Jordan Klapman,  Jack Zorawski,  Igor Babich,  Tony Quarrington,  Jonno Lightstone,  Avital Zemer,  Charlie Finley,  John Pittman, David Buchbinder & Daniel Menjivar. He feels fortunate to have also worked with the talented Jonathan Feldman & filled in with his band Zebrina.

He is also an original founding member of the Jazz Fusion quartet MeSha's Brew which over the years has included some very talented players in its lineup such as Michael Goutman, Raj Jalaldeen,  Jaron Freeman-Fox & Dave Powell.

Additionally for two years in a row he performed with visiting Argentinean multi-instrumentalist virtuoso Pedro Menendez on the Toronto dates part of his North American tour.

He continues to be active & engaged in the busy Toronto music scene and is always in pursuit of new, exciting & challenging musical opportunities!
